Multi-Day Ettrema Gorge Search Successful
OPSTAR has assisted in a large-scale search in the Ettrema Gorge Wilderness Area for two missing bushwalkers. An OPSTAR Land search and Rescue team assisted in the multi-agency search co-ordinated by NSW Police Rescue.
The successful outcome of the search has been confirmed after the missing bushwalkers were guided to safety earlier today. Hostile weather conditions have hampered search efforts, with a heavy rain system reducing visibility and preventing the use of helicopters for much of the day yesterday.
OPSTAR Managing Director, John Giffard said “The past few days have provided an opportunity for our land SAR teams to work with Police Rescue, SES BSAR teams, RFS RAFT teams, NSW Ambulance and NPWS increasing inter-agency relationships and interoperability.”
OPSTAR is has been contracted to the Department of Defence to provide Search and Rescue for the Aviation Operations of the Royal Australian Navy’s Fleet Air Arm at HMAS Albatross near Nowra, New South Wales since 2016.
