OPSTAR featured in Australian Aviation Magazine
The Sycamore’s central role in ADF training was recognised by a recent feature in the Australian Aviation magazine, along with the role played by OPSTAR in the vessels’ functioning. The dedicated Multi-Role Aviation Training vessel (MATV) hosts a number of specialised training operations with OPSTAR providing the Flightdeck Operational Support Team (FDOST), the Ships Medical Emergency Team (SMET) and the ships Paramedic. Head of the FDOST, OPSTAR Flight Deck Marshaller (FDM) Kerwyn Ballico, was praised for his prioritisation of safety through his extensive safety briefings.
The article emphasised the important role played by the vessel, stating that “the challenges of operating aircraft at sea will always remain substantial but through the Sycamore, those tasked to do so will be better prepared than ever before”.
The feature had previously appeared in the magazines’ May-June print edition and the online version is available here for public viewing.
OPSTAR was awarded the contract to provide the Flightdeck Operational Support Team (FDOST), the Ships Medical Emergency Team (SMET) and the ships Paramedic to the MV Sycamore in 2017, providing a further 12 jobs for the Shoalhaven.
